Osha Root Herbal Cough Lozenge Recipe
Osha Root Herbal Cough Lozenges
Osha, also called bear root, has a spicy, earthy, black pepper flavor. Its potent smell and taste give it away as being a powerful plant medicine.
Osha has a fascinating history of ceremonial use too long to be included in this post, however we encourage you to explore this beautiful root further. To help you get started, we have an article that explores a few benefits of osha root. Here we are focusing on the medicinal aspects.
Osha Is Great For Colds
Commonly used as an antiviral, anti-bacterial, and an aid for persistent and nagging coughs, osha’s strong flavour is also great to help decongest and loosen mucus. We combined our osha root with honey to make lozenges.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup of honey
1 cup of water
1/3 tsp of salt
1 tbsp of osha/bear root (powdered)
1/4 cup (approx.) of arrowroot powder
You Will Also Need:
Candy mold
Candy thermometer
Instructions:
Attach your candy thermometer to a medium saucepan, and over medium high heat bring the honey and water to a rapid boil.
Once a boil is reached, stir in the salt and osha root.
Stir occasionally as your mixture heats to 300F.
As soon as the temperature reaches 300F, remove from heat and pour the mixture into your candy molds.
Allow to harden in molds for several hours or as long as overnight.
Once cool, remove candies and roll in arrowroot powder to prevent your lozenges from sticking together.
Store in fridge or freezer.
